Electrical Repairs & Upgrades

How the work goes
  • Outlet and switch replacement on existing circuits
  • Circuit additions with new wire run from panel
  • Panel upgrades from 100-amp to 200-amp service
  • Lighting installation including recessed cans, pendants, and exterior fixtures
  • GFCI outlet installation in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and exterior locations
  • AFCI breaker installation in bedrooms and living areas
  • Permit handling and inspection coordination through Nevada County

Electrical work in California requires permits for anything beyond replacing a switch or outlet on an existing circuit. We're licensed, we pull permits, and we schedule inspections. Unpermitted electrical work is a liability when you sell the house and a safety risk in the meantime. Common repairs include replacing worn outlets and switches, fixing flickering lights (usually a loose connection or bad fixture), and resetting tripped breakers. If a breaker trips repeatedly, there's an overload or a short—we trace the circuit and find the cause. If outlets don't work or lights are dead, we check for power at the panel, test the circuit, and identify whether it's a bad device, a tripped GFCI upstream, or a wiring issue. Most electrical problems have a logical cause; we find it and fix it. Adding circuits is necessary when you're installing new appliances, adding outlets to meet code, or upgrading old two-prong outlets to grounded three-prong. We run new wire from the panel, install the device, label the breaker, and test. If the panel is full, we install a subpanel or upgrade the main panel. Older homes with 100-amp service and insufficient circuits need panel upgrades to handle modern loads. Panel upgrades are common in older homes. Modern homes need 200-amp service to handle HVAC, electric appliances, EV chargers, and general loads. We coordinate with the utility company for meter disconnect, install the new panel, transfer existing circuits, add new circuits as needed, and schedule inspections. This is a full-day job, and power is off for several hours. We schedule panel upgrades in advance so you can plan around the outage. Lighting installation includes recessed cans, pendant fixtures, under-cabinet lighting, and exterior lights. We mount boxes securely, make proper connections, and ensure fixtures are rated for their location (wet-rated for exterior, IC-rated if touching insulation). Dimmer switches require dimmable bulbs—LED bulbs need compatible dimmers or they flicker. We also install GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and exterior locations as required by code. GFCI protection prevents shocks in wet areas. AFCI breakers are required in bedrooms and living areas to prevent arc faults that cause fires. We bring panels up to current code during upgrades. Electrical work isn't a DIY project. Mistakes cause fires and shocks. We do it right.
